New Year Alfonse's exclusive weapon Imbued Koma makes it very easy for Alfonse's special to trigger, and on top of that, it can nullify enemy follow-up attacks. Simple: Ryoma hasn't been —and won't be in the foreseeable future— a bonus character. And due to his great bulk, it works surprisingly well, especially with Sturdy Blow. He's also worth investing in for the F2P players, as you don't need to rely on pulling a banner focus until each time, and you have a 5/* without promoting the GHB unit. Niche? I swap Anna and Alfonse (will be Sharena too once I promote her) on and off and they work great.There's a couple pretty major issues with the brave build, namely the 2 charge special (which doesn't work well with the attack pattern of a brave weapon, nor of quick riposte with a slow unit). Except I have now realized that 5* your starters as soon as possible make reaching and staying in R20 easier as you will always have a bonus hero, and don't need to waste resources on pulling, leveling, and other shenanigans on your GHB or recently pulled units.

A good alternative would be swordbreaker, to ensure kills on xander, ike, and ryoma (who all survive him with at +0 with fury).As for the heavy blade build being optimal... 51 attack isnt that high, especially considering how everyone who runs an attack-boosting a skill such as fury(many many heroes), and has at least 32 attack will prevent heavy blade from activation.Also saccing aether from Lucina, who is by far the better unit, or Chrom, who does even better with a brave sword build (ivs allow him to get 5 more base attack). But, boy, he does have three important roles: A) He's my Hector killer.

Quick Riposte is arguably more optimal, as it allows Alfonse to bait an attack, get doubled, and retaliate with Aether (with QP at least), likely for a one shot and a lot of healing.
