Published in 1868, 'The Moonstone' by Wilkie Collins is credited with being the first ever detective novel in the English language. "The Moonstone" centers on the theft of a cursed but priceless diamond. The moonstone was originally thought to be used some time in the 15th century by an Aztec shaman, as the power source of a curse cast upon both vampires and werewolves.
