The crime rate in Boston is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America from the largest to the smallest, although at 28 crimes per one thousand residents, it is not among the communities with the very highest crime rate.

John Boyle attributed to a “focus on community policing.”“We have been working in partnership with our communities and building neighborhoods without fear and reducing crime,” Boyle said.Mayor Martin Walsh said at a public safety press conference at City Hall on Monday that Boston has had a “very, very successful year to some degree in terms of crime statistics.”Boyle said the department plans to release an analysis of its crime statistics for 2019 on Friday that will reveal more about policing and crime reduction efforts.
